A summer camp is an essential part of school life. It is an event organized in the summer holidays aimed at teaching various new skills to students in order to promote a learning environment and to equip them with real world skills, apart from the set academic learning.

It is a great initiative to help students make optimum use of their holidays by learning and mastering new skills. This way, by trying various activities, young kids can explore their potential and passion for certain arts and simultaneously widen their horizons.

The summer camp in DPS, GBN began enthusiastically on May 20, 2019 and continued till May 31, 2019. A total of 500 plus students of grades IV-VIII participated in the camp.

There were many fun-filled activities in which children were involved like-

• Public speaking in English, Hindi, French and German
• Skit in English and Hindi; Creative Writing in English
• Aqua Zumba, Basketball, Cricket, Athletics, Yoga, Taekwondo
• Canvas Painting/Texture Painting, Flower Making/Paper Folders, Stone Painting, 3D Model, Block Printing, Clay Modeling
• Jazz, Kathak, Pop culture, Tabla Parichay, Sitar & Violin
• Movie making, Photoshop, Programming with python
• Salad dressing and mocktails, Baking and non-fire cooking
• Fun with Science and Fun with Numbers

The main attractions of the event were ‘Aqua Zumba’ where students performed a dance number in the water; Kathak dance on the shloka- ‘Guru Vandana, Vishnu Shloka’ and spectacular matches were held for Basketball and Cricket.

DPS, GBN provided a platform to the young kids to explore their potentials. Children learnt valuable life skills in summer camps such as leadership qualities, socialising with other kids and discipline which are equally important as academic knowledge. These skills build confidence in a child from the beginning and that in turn aids in his overall development. Principal, Ms Indira Kohli, appreciated the efforts and performances of the students; she also motivated everyone to hone their skills through these activities to be self-reliant and take our Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’ forward with great zeal.
