True learning happens when knowledge is not just taught but also experienced, felt, and expressed. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through the integration of Art in education. Art not only enriches creativity but also strengthens critical thinking, emotional expression, and problem-solving skills. At DPS, GBN, we firmly believe that education without art is incomplete, and our Primary Wing is a shining example of how artistic learning can nurture young minds.

From the early years of schooling, children are naturally curious and imaginative. Channeling this creativity into meaningful learning experiences allows them to grasp concepts more deeply and joyfully. At DPS, GBN, our teachers weave art into everyday lessons, making classrooms vibrant spaces of exploration. For instance, when learning about nature and the environment, our students create collages using leaves, flowers, and recycled material. This not only builds awareness about sustainability but also strengthens their ability to express ideas visually.

Art is also a bridge between different subjects. In our Primary Wing, we integrate drawing and storytelling with English lessons. Students often illustrate characters from stories or design comic strips to retell tales in their own words. This approach not only enhances their comprehension but also encourages self-expression and imagination. Similarly, in Mathematics, concepts like patterns, symmetry, and geometry are made lively through rangoli designs, paper folding, and origami activities. Children learn better when they can “see” and “create” what they are studying.

In Environmental Sciences, our teachers integrate art to simplify abstract ideas and make them tangible. For example, students build models of the solar system, draw diagrams to understand plant and animal life, and create charts to represent community helpers or historical timelines. By sketching, crafting, and designing, children grasp academic concepts more effectively and retain them for longer periods. Such practices ensure that academics become less about rote learning and more about meaningful understanding.

The highlight of our art-integrated education is visible in our special assemblies and celebrations. Be it Independence Day, Earth Day, or Literacy Week, the Primary Wing students design beautiful props, stage performances, and create artwork that reflects their learning. These events showcase not only their artistic talent but also their ability to work collaboratively and confidently.

What truly makes art integration powerful is the way it caters to different kinds of learners. A child who struggles to express through words may shine through painting or music. Another who hesitates in academics may gain confidence while performing on stage. At DPS, GBN, we celebrate these multiple intelligences and give every child a platform to discover and nurture their strengths.

Incorporating art into education is not an “extra activity” for us; it is a core teaching strategy. It helps children develop empathy, patience, teamwork, and an appreciation of beauty in the world around them. As we continue this journey, we remain committed to creating classrooms where creativity and knowledge go hand in hand. At DPS, GBN, we believe that when art meets education, learning becomes not just informative but truly transformative.

Navya Sharma

Faculty

Education today is no longer confined to textbooks, blackboards, and examinations.
